RIMOUSKI OCEANIC (1-1) VS. KELOWNA ROCKETS (0-2)

GAME TIME: 7 p.m. at the John Labatt Centre, televised on Rogers Sportsnet

ROCKETS: Lost 3-2 to Ottawa in double-overtime; lost 4-2 to London.

OCEANIC: Fell 4-3 to the Knights in overtime; beat Ottawa 4-3 last night.

ON FIRE: For Kelowna, forward Troy Bodie, an Edmonton Oilers draft pick, has scored an early goal in both games. For Rimouski, star forward Sidney Crosby beat out London's Corey Perry as CHL player of the year yesterday.

WHERE'S THE D?: Kelowna, the defending Memorial Cup champs, has allowed seven goals in two games, more than double what it surrendered as the host club last year.

SCORING SENSATION: Remember when Wayne Gretzky said Crosby could be the one to break some of his records? Well, despite a second straight CHL scoring title, Crosby didn't quite match the 16-year-old Great One's 1977-78 season of 70 goals and 182 points in 64 games, his lone campaign with the Soo Greyhounds. Crosby had 66 goals and 168 points in 62 games this year after 54-135 points in 59 games last year.

ON THE BRINK: If Kelowna loses tonight, it will be the first Western league team to drop all three of its Cup contests since 2000, when the Kootenay Ice went home winless from Halifax.

BEHIND THE BENCH

(Western Mustangs hockey coach Clarke Singer will break down a key tactical point each day during the Memorial Cup)

Today: On how to control Sidney Crosby. Shutting him down is a tall task. Did the Knights shut him down? He got a goal and an assist. But they still won, so they did a good job. With an elite player like him and Corey Perry, you have to do three things. One, you have to be incredibly disciplined. Don't let him on the power play. Two, you may not be able to get a full line all the time on him but you can get one player, like a Brandon Prust, with the assignment of shutting him down. Third, with the line matching, not everyone looks at the defence. Try to get a physical defensive pair against him like London did with Marc Methot and Dan Girardi.
