HITMEN SPARKPLUG:

Riley Merkley. Opened the scoring with his first WHL playoff goal, setting the tone for the contest.

TURNING POINT:

Calgary's second goal by D Jeff Schultz at 7:56 of the first period, just 35 seconds after Riley Merkley opened the scoring, deflated the 'Canes.

WHAT IT MEANS:

The upstart Hitmen now lead the best-of-seven quaarter-final series 2-1.

HIT OF THE GAME:

Calgary captain Ryan Getzlaf crushed Hurricanes D Brennan Chapman, who was behind his net trying to move the puck up to a winger during the second period.

SAVE OF THE GAME:

Chalk up back-to-back big stops for Calgary 'tender Justin Pogge late in the second. First, he kicked out his right pad and robbed Kyle Pess, then he denied Rob Klinkhammer, who pounced on the rebound.
