No nail-biter this time

So much for those tight, one-goal games.

After eight straight nail-biters against Lethbridge, the Calgary Hitmen blew the 'Canes out of the barn last night at the 'Dome.

A 4-0 victory might not be most people's idea of a blowout.

But the way the Hitmen dominated from start to finish will definitely have the visitors scratching their heads prior to tonight's Game 4.

Calgary goaltender Justin Pogge, who ran his sparkling save percentage to .951 with last night's goose-egg, said his teammates are focused on grabbing a stranglehold tonight.

"We're here to win a series and we're not taking any prisoners," Pogge said.

"We're going to go hard every night.

"After a night like tonight, we can't get too high on ourselves. We must stay on an even keel."

Captain Ryan Getzlaf discounted the notion his team has a major advantage heading into Game 4 based on last night's performance.

"You don't want to get too cocky," Getzlaf said. "We put together the game we wanted to.

"But I know they're going to get reamed out and they'll be coming hard tomorrow, so we have to be better."

Getzlaf was right. The 'Canes did get an earful from head coach Lindsay Hofford, who questioned the heart of his top players and the competence of his goaltender.

And there's nothing better than playing the second of back-to-back games following a shutout, when the opposition is squeezing their sticks into sawdust.

Pogge said he wasn't sure if he's starting to give the 'Canes nightmares.

"I don't know, I hope so," Pogge said.

"I can't play much better but the team is just playing great in front of me.

"We really took it to them this game.

"And we didn't stop.

"We worked hard for a full 60."

And that is something new.

The Hitmen have earned an unwanted reputation for blowing third-period leads during the regular season.

"Yeah, it's a bit of a change but I think we're learning," Pogge said.

"We just keep getting better, we're learning every game."
