SUN THREE STARS:

1. Ryan Getzlaf, Hitmen -- Scored a goal, chipped in with a helper and gave his team life after a sluggish start.

2. Andrew Ladd, Hitmen -- Tallied a shorthanded marker and showed all kinds of jump.

3. Justin Pogge, Hitmen -- After giving up a weak goal early to 'Canes D Brent Seabrook, the Hitmen goalie stood tall between the pipes.

HITMEN SPARKPLUG:

Steve Covington -- The speedy winger wreaked havoc on the forecheck, winning several battles for loose pucks in the corners.

TURNING POINT:

Up 2-1 in the second, and with F Brodie Dupont in the box for unsportmanlike conduct, F Andrew Ladd scored a shorthanded goal, killing the Hurricanes' momentum. It was the game-winner.

WHAT IT MEANS:

The Hitmen earned the split on the road they were so desperately seeking before resuming the series in Calgary for the next two games.

HIT OF THE GAME:

Hitmen D Brett Carson lined up Lethbridge's 195-lb. C Tyler Redenbach for a monster jolt but the 6-ft. 5-in., 220-lb. rearguard got the worse end of the deal and went down in heap.

SAVE OF THE GAME:

Calgary G Justin Pogge showed his lightning-quick glove in the first period, snapping up a Kris Versteeg wrister that had top shelf written all over it.

NOTABLES:

Games 3 and 4 go Tuesday and Wednesday the Saddledome, 7 p.m. starts ... Eight of the current Hurricanes were acquired via trades, including two of their top guns, Jonathan Filewich and Tyler Redenbach.
