The Chicoutimi Sagueneens used a dominating special-teams performance Saturday to take a commanding lead in their series with the Baie-Comeau Drakkar.
Stanislav Lascek, Nicolas Marcotte and David Desharnais had power-play goals and Alexandre Vincent made 27 saves as the Sagueneens downed the Drakkar 4-2 in Game 2 of their Quebec Major Junior Hockey League opening-round series.
The win puts the Sagueneens up 2-0 in the best-of-seven, with Game 3 set for Tuesday night in Baie-Comeau.
Lascek finished with a goal and two assists and Chicoutimi killed off 10 of 11 Drakkar power-plays en route to the victory. Julien Brouillette had the other goal for the Sagueneens.
Elsewhere in the QMJHL on Saturday, it was: Lewiston 4, Shawinigan 1; Moncton 4, Drummondville 3 (OT); Gatineau 3, Cape Breton 2; and Quebec 5, Victoriaville 1.
At Chicoutimi, Que., Nicolas Robillard and Jean-Francois Jacques countered for Baie-Comeau, which has scored just twice in 18 power-plays in the series. The Drakkar came into the best-of-seven with the second-worst power-play in the regular season (15.5 per cent).
Michael Dupont stopped 38 shots for Baie-Comeau.
Maineiacs 4, Cataractes 1
At Shawinigan, Que., Alex Bourret and Brandon Roach each had a goal and an assist in Lewiston's victory over the Cataractes.
Alexandre Picard and Marc-Andre Daneau added singles for the Maineiacs, who lead the best-of-seven series 2-0 and will host Game 3 Tuesday.
Steve Bellefleur replied for Shawinigan.
Wildcats 4, Voltigeurs 3 (OT)
At Moncton, N.B., Kevin Glode scored in overtime to lead the Wildcats over Drummondville. Nathan Saunders, Joshua Hepditch and Ian Mathieu-Girard also scored for Moncton, while Steve Bernier had three assists. Frederic St-Denis, Joshua Hepditch and Louis-Philippe Martin scored for the Voltigeurs, with Guillaume Latendresse contributing two assists. Moncton leads the best-of-seven series 2-0. Drummondville hosts Game 3 on Tuesday.
Olympiques 3, Screaming Eagles 2
At Gatineau, Que., Petr Pohl scored twice to lead the Olympiques over Cape Breton. Guillaume Labrecque scored and added an assist for Gatineau. Kevin Asselin and Adam Pardy replied for the Screaming Eagles. Gatineau leads the best-of-seven series 2-0. The Screaming Eagles host Game 3 on Tuesday in Sydney, N.S.
Remparts 5, Tigres 1
At Quebec, Alexander Radulov scored twice and Karl Gagne had three assists to lead the Remparts over Victoriaville. Mathieu Melanson and Marc-Edouard Vlasic each had a goal and an assist for Quebec, while Simon Courcelles also scored. Mike Ramsay replied for the Tigres. Victoriaville hosts Game 3 on Monday with the best-of-seven series tied 1-1.
