Crosby to Moose or MJHL?

There are no NHL playoffs to look forward to, and the NHL entry draft has been snuffed out. So what is there for us to look forward to?

The Sidney Crosby sweepstakes, that's what.

The new Next One is all dressed up with nowhere to play for the first four months of next hockey season.

The NHL likely will wait until January before it finally gets going again (that's when the players will come crawling back), so Crosby will have to find a temporary home for those three or four months until he can begin his quest for greatness in the world's greatest hockey league.

But where will Sidney go?

That's why we're here.

We here at the Hit Parade decided to take a look at all the places in Manitoba Crosby could play.

The bidding war will be intense, but this is the greatest hockey prospect in the world we're talking about, so leave the financial worries behind, sell the team bus and get out the chequebook, because Sidney's for sale.

OPTION 1 -- Manitoba Moose.

If Crosby is coming to Manitoba, this is his likely destination.

The Moose probably will be coming off an extended Calder Cup playoff run, so they'll be fresh in the young superstar's mind.

They are one of four AHL teams in Canada, and you'd think the kid would want to stay in Canada, right?

There are a few problems, however.

Those free-spending Chicago Wolves, who are without a doubt Manitoba's No. 1 enemy, have already been rumoured to be going after Crosby.

And what the Wolves want, the Wolves get.

Then there's the Toronto factor. The St. John's Maple Leafs are moving to T.O. to become the Toronto Marlies.

If Crosby loves attention, that's the place to be, but the new Next One is a Montreal Canadiens fan, so playing for the Leafs farm club would be blasphemy.

If Crosby does end up in Manitoba, however, controversy would ensue when head coach Randy Carlyle makes him ride the pine for the first two months.

A rookie? Play? Come on!

OPTION 2 -- OCN Blizzard.

The Blizzard have now gone two -- I repeat, two -- whole seasons without an MJHL title.

This cannot be a good thing up in The Pas.

If they can lure Crosby up there, there's a good chance the Blizzard could get back on top of the province's junior A loop.

Playing for the Blizzard might, in fact, be the most lucrative option for Crosby.

OPTION 3 -- Ile des Chenes North Stars.

Pat Falloon, a No. 2 overall NHL pick, and Crosby, a soon-to-be-No. 1 NHL pick, on the same line?

Forget about it.

OPTION 4 -- A Winnipeg beer league.

In this loop, Crosby would grow up faster than anywhere else.

Strippers and suds. What more does a young man need?

AND FINALLY: Congrats to Brandon University for not killing the athletics program.

If it weren't for the Bobcat men's basketball team, no one in Canada would know BU existed.

Therefore, keep athletics at all costs and don't think about cutting it again.
