KOOTENAY ICE 5

HITMEN 0

SUN THREE STARS:

1. RYAN RUSSELL, Ice -- Powerplay goal, shorthanded goal and an assist.

2. CASEY LEE, Ice -- Goal and a blue-collar helper.

3. JEFF GLASS, Ice; Stayed awake long enough to make a handful of decent stops.

TURNING POINT:

It's not too often the game is decided two minutes after the opening faceoff but that's when the Ice scored the game-winner and they were in control the rest of the way.

SAVE OF THE GAME:

Hitmen starter Justin Pogge made a great pad stop off a Nigel Dawes one-timer early in the first.

HIT OF THE GAME:

Diminutive Konstantin Pushkarev surprised Roman Polak when the Hitmen import dropped a shoulder into the Kootenay d-man and sent him to the ice halfway through the opening period.

HARDEST WORKER:

If even half of RW Steve Covington's work ethic translated into offensive production, he'd be leading the league.

SCRATCHES:

HITMEN -- RW Keegan Dansereau (illness), RW Roman Tomanek (shoulder, week to week), D Justin Falk.

ICE -- RW Andy Bossence (ribs, one week), RW Laine Allen, D Chad Greenan.

WHAT IT MEANS:

The third-place Hitmen (33-22-8-4) are now just two points ahead of Red Deer for third place in the Central Division.

UP NEXT:

The Hitmen take on the defending Memorial Cup Champion Kelowna Rockets tonight (8 p.m., The Fan 960).
