Goalie Jeff MacDougald made sure the Ottawa 67's didn't win their first game in four tries in Peterborough this season.

The 20-year-old netminder stopped 38 shots in a 2-1 victory over the 67's last night.

The loss dropped Ottawa seven points behind the first-place Petes in the OHL East Division.

MacDougald shone in the third period. He stopped Jakub Petruzalek on a breakaway, then made a great diving stop on Chris Hulit.

"We worked hard enough in certain areas to win it, but our best players have to be our best players, and some of them weren't," said 67's coach/GM Brian Kilrea.

Patrick Katela scored the winning goal in the second period on Ottawa goalie Anthony Guadagnolo. Jamie VanderVeeken scored Ottawa's lone goal.

VanderVeeken was hit by a puck in the helmet in the pre-game warmup and sat out the final two periods. Goalie Danny Battochio, who has not played since suffering a shoulder injury on Jan. 12, will start in net as Ottawa hosts the Mississauga Ice Dogs tonight at the Civic Centre. VanderVeeken will likely play in the game.

IN THE CREASE: Overage left winger Jeremy Akeson will miss the rest of the regular season due to injuries to an ankle and a hand. Sidney Crosby and the Rimouski Oceanic are in town for a QMJHL game against the Gatineau Olympiques tonight at the Robert Guertin Centre. Faceoff is at 7.
