London Knights defenceman Danny Syvret finally got his chance to publicly explain his "snub" of Wayne Gretzky. The Great One was assisting IIHF president Rene Fasel in presenting the gold medals to the Canadian juniors Tuesday in Grand Forks, N.D.

When Syvret received his medal from Fasel, he was so enthralled in looking at it that he turned and skated away, leaving Gretzky standing there, hand outstretched.

It was all caught on TSN's telecast of the world junior championship and replayed on the John Labatt Centre scoreboard last night during a pregame ceremony.

"I'd just like to clear everything up about this Wayne Gretzky incident," Syvret told the crowd, which broke into laughter.

"I don't know who in their right mind would snub Wayne Gretzky.

"Since I got back, I e-mailed him and he e-mailed me. He asked for my cellphone number, so I assume he'll give me a call sometime."
