- OF NOTE: Canada is playing in its fourth consecutive gold-medal game and is coming off three straight silvers. Since an 8th place finish in 1998, Canada took home four silvers and two bronze. After winning gold in 2002 and 2003, Russia slipped to fifth at the 2004 World Junior Hockey Championship but has beaten Canada for gold in 1999, 2002 and 2003.

RUSSIA: PLAYERS TO WATCH

- LW ALEXANDER OVECHKIN: The Washington Capitals first rounder (first overall, 2004), is a dynamic player with great speed and an accurate shot. The captain leads the Russians with seven goals and 11 points in five games.

- C EVGENI MALKIN: The Pittsburgh Penguins first rounder (second overall, 2004), is a creative playmaker who is deadly in open ice, especially on the power play. He has three goals and 10 points in five games.

- G ANTON KHUDOBIN: The unheralded puckstopper has been solid, posting a 3-1 record, a 2.25 GAA and a .909 save percentage. Khudobin was a seventh round pick of the Minnesota Wild in 2004.
