THIEF RIVER FALLS, Minn. (CP) -- Alexander Ovechkin scored twice as Russia finished pool play with a 6-1 win over Switzerland Thursday to finish 3-1 in Group A.

Dimitri Vorobiev, Dmitri Pestunov, Alexander Galimov and Georgi Misharin also scored for Russia.

Marco Kaser had the lone goal for Switzerland.

Russia scored a pair of goals in the final 3 minutes of the second period. The Swiss (1-3) will play Germany Saturday in the consolation game.

In another Pool A match Thursday night, the defending champion Americans face the Czech Republic. The game is crucial to both teams, which have identical 2-1 records.

The U.S. can finish first in the pool with a win and advance to the semifinals. That would be quite an accomplishment given the Americans were upset 5-3 by Belarus on Tuesday night.

Slovakia (2-1) and Sweden (1-2) were to meet in a later Pool B game Thursday night.
