SMACK OF THE GAME:

They were within seconds of each other and both sent opposing players sprawling end over tea kettle. On the same shift, Mike Richards first drilled Sweden's Sebastian Karlsson and then the Canadian forward hit Robert Nilsson at the other end.

HIGHLIGHT REEL:

Mike Richards showed early he was on his mark and ready to be an impact player. In the first period, while Canada was shorthanded, the captain headed out on a one-on-two yet managed to generate a couple of scoring chances for himself to the delight of the throng of red-clad fans in the building.

BUMPS AND BRUISES:

D Brent Seabrook (upper body) and F Jeremy Colliton (lower body) were both in action, though to different degrees. Seabrook was a seventh defenceman who took a regular spot on the powerplay, while Colliton only took one short shift in the first and spent the rest of the period as well as the middle frame on the bench before packing it in.
