Brett O'Malley made sure the Calgary Hitmen enjoy a merry Christmas. The overager tallied the overtime-winner last night in Saskatoon as the Hitmen downed the Blades 4-3. O'Malley redirected Karl Alzner's shot/pass for his fourth goal of the season.

It was a big win for a Calgary club (16-13-6-1) that's shorthanded without Canadian junior teammates Ryan Getzlaf and Andrew Ladd and hasn't been catching any breaks lately.

"It's nice to feel good about ourselves. We've had a lot of stuff go against us lately, even though our effort's been there. It's nice to have the guys rewarded for their work ethic, even though we didn't have a lot left in the tank," said Hitmen assistant coach Dean Evason.

Brodie Dupont, Konstantin Pushkarev and recently-acquired David Jacobson also scored for the Hitmen, who were 2-for-5 on the powerplay.

Joe Barnes tallied twice and Calgarian Mike Green, who was cut from Canada's junior squad, scored for the East Division-leading Blades (19-9-5-2).

The short-staffed Hitmen iced only 16 skaters.

Calgary doesn't play again until Dec. 30, when the Red Deer Rebels come to town.
