London Knights defenceman Danny Syvret has a fan in Team Canada head Brent Sutter.

A source said yesterday that Sutter, general manager and coach of the Red Deer Rebels, indicated "he would like to have Syvret as his seventh defenceman" for the world junior championship.

"Sutter figures he'll go with six WHLers, then it's between Syvret and Mike Green (of the Saskatoon Blades). But he sure likes Syvret," the source said.

Canada's expected blue-line pairings are Dion Phaneuf (Red Deer) and Shea Weber (Kelowna Rockets); Cam Barker (Medicine Hat Tigers) and Braydon Cobourn (Portland Winter Hawks), and Shawn Belle (Tri-City Americans) and Brent Seabrook (Lethbridge Hurricanes).

Team Canada assistant coach Peter DeBoer, coach-GM of the Kitchener Rangers, had earlier said of Syvret: "His versatility makes him a real attractive candidate."
