If the Manitoba Moose are going to secure a split in their Calder Cup playoff series with the Lake Erie Monsters, they’ll have to win Game 2.

Matt Ford scored two goals, including the game-winner, as the Monsters drew first blood in the best-of-7 North Division semifinal with a 6-4 victory over the Moose on Saturday afternoon at Quicken Loans Arena.

Moose goalie and team MVP Eddie Lack had a tough outing, surrendering five goals on 24 shots before he was replaced by Tyler Weiman late in the third period.

Moose centre Marco Rosa was outstanding for the visitors, scoring twice and adding two assists for four points.

Sergei Shirokov and Kevin Connauton (while short-handed) also scored for the Moose.

Monsters goalie Jason Bacashihua allowed two goals on the first three shots he faced, but settled in and finished with 21 saves, while adding an assist on a late empty-netter from Mark Olver.

Ben Walter, Justin Mercier and Ryan Stoa also found the back of the net for the Monsters, who scored twice at even strength, once on the power play, once while short-handed and once into the empty net.

Game 2 goes Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m. before the series shifts to the MTS Centre on Tuesday.
