The inconsistent Manitoba Moose are back on the winning track.
The Moose snapped a two-game losing streak with a 2-1 overtime win over the Grand Rapids Griffins in AHL action on Saturday night at Van Andel Arena. Mario Bliznak, celebrating his 23rd birthday, potted the winner with 1:05 left in the extra frame.
Manitoba returns home for six games in a row at MTS Centre, starting with a Friday-Saturday doubleheader against the Rockford IceHogs next weekend.
The Moose improved to 32-28-5-1, but remain in fourth in the North Division. They moved five points up on the fifth-place Lake Erie Monsters, who were beaten 3-1 Saturday by the Peoria Rivermen.
The Rochester Americans beat the Toronto Marlies 1-0 on Saturday to remain four points up on Manitoba, but also moved into a second-place tie with the Abbostford Heat, which played Worcester late Saturday.
Sergei Shirokov had his team-leading 20th goal for the Moose in the first period, while Justin Abdelkader scored for the Griffins 20 seconds into the third. Cory Schneider turned aside 42 shots for the Moose.
While there’s still more than a month to go in the regular season, the Moose don’t have to travel to the U.S. anymore. They have six road games left, all in Canada, and eight home games left on the schedule.
