Greentree inks new Flames deal
By WES GILBERTSON, SUN MEDIA
Even after a breakout season in the minors, Kyle Greentree wasn't interested in testing the market. Greentree, the leading point-producer last season at AHL Quad City and a pending restricted free agent, inked a one-year, two-way deal yesterday with the Calgary Flames. Financial terms were not released. "It shows that they want me here and I want to be here," Greentree said. "This is the place that I want to play, so it was good to get it done early so I'm not wondering halfway through the summer what's going on." Greentree, who was acquired in a trade from the Philadelphia Flyers last June, racked up 39 goals and 37 assists in 79 games with the Baby Flames. The 25-year-old left-winger suited up for two regular-season contests with the parent club in February. He's still searching for his first NHL goal, but he's optimistic his offensive skills will translate to the next level. "I hope I can get a chance to show I can score in the National Hockey League," Greentree said "It's not going to happen overnight. I don't expect myself to step in the first game and contribute all these goals, but the more I get used to the players and everything, I think I could definitely help the team and be effective out there."
