Russian forward dies after headshot

Russian forward Dmitri Uchaykin died early Sunday morning hours after suffering a headshot during a league game in Kazakhstan.

According to TheHockeyHouse.net, Uchaykin, 33, was knocked unconscious on the ice by Lithuanian forward Donatas Kumeliuskas and taken to hospital where he arrived in a coma. He died around 4 a.m. due to a cerebral hemorrhage.

He leaves behind a pregnant wife and young daughter.

Uchaykin played for HC Ertis-Pavlodar of Kazakhstan Vyschaya Liga, the country’s highest-level professional hockey league.
