MONTREAL – A former minor hockey coach admitted Monday to molesting four young boys, including some of his own players.

Gilbert Dube, 55, pleaded guilty at the Montreal courthouse to three counts of sexual touching, one count of invitation to sexual touching and two counts of sexual exploitation of minors between 2002 and last year.

Dube coached for decades in Montreal as well as a suburb north of the city. Dube admitted that he performed various sex acts on the boys while driving them home or to games. They were between 11 and 15 years of age at the time.

The coach would gain the players’ confidence by giving them gifts and warn them not to tell their parents about the encounters.

He was arrested when one of the teens told his mother about the abuse. Dube then told investigators about three other victims.

Several Montreal hockey associations had hired Dube despite the fact that he was convicted in 1993 of molesting a girl on a ringette team that he coached.
