American Shawn Stefani became the first player to register a hole-in-one at a U.S. Open hosted at Merion, a course situated just outside of Philadelphia.

Tees were moved up on the par-3, 17th for the final round on Sunday.

Stefani hit a 4-iron on the difficult 213-yard hole that caromed out of the rough and onto the green before slowly rolling and dropping into the hole for an ace.

Although he remains tied for 60th and 19 over par, Stefani celebrated like a man possessed with his caddie in the tee box.

Stefani’s hole-in-one was the 43rd in U.S. Open history.
