AUGUSTA - Jason Day was not only the last man standing on the 18th green at Augusta National, but he stood the tallest.

At the end of a most gruelling, unpredictable round of Masters tension, Day emerged as the 36-hole leader, finding his way through Augusta’s fickle back nine in three-under par in the very last grouping of the day to sit alone at six-under par at the tournament’s midpoint.

At various points during the afternoon, as many as a half-dozen players — including Dustin Johnson, Fred Couples, Angel Cabrera, Jim Furyk and Matt Kuchar — made charges to get to the front of the pack, but Day was the only one able to sustain it to the end.
