LOUISVILLE, KY. - How would you characterize Graham DeLaet’s opening round at the PGA Championship?

Pretty sick.

After fighting the flu since withdrawing from the World Golf Championships Bridgestone Invitational, a nasty bug that caused the Weyburn, Sask., native to lose about 10 pounds, DeLaet opened with a two-under par 69 to sit in a tie for 20th on a bunched-up leaderboard.

“I played pretty well pretty much all day,” DeLaet said. “I missed three or four shots all day and unfortunately I made bogey on all those holes … but I played really well and I’m happy with where I’m at. It’s a good start.”

DeLaet wasn’t able to get his normal preparation in this week, but it didn’t seem to hurt him. Maybe it was just the boost of being back at full strength.
