PITTSFORD, N.Y. - Pouty-lipped Jason Dufner broke out of his shell with a quick public pinch of wife Amanda’s butt.

So what if millions were watching on TV.

So what if it caused onlookers surrounding the final hole to break out in laughter.

This was his moment. His day. His tournament.

And so, as he quickly tapped Amanda’s tush as the two shared a hug to celebrate his victory in the 2013 PGA Championship on Sunday evening, the mild-mannered Dufner showed the world that, yes, he does have a pulse, a heart and a sense of humour.

As for an outstanding golf game, well, we all already knew he had that.

But Dufner took it to another level on the historic East Course at fabled Oak Hill in the season’s final major, firing a final round 68 en route to a 72-hole score of 270, 10-under par. In the process, he beat veteran Jim Furyk by two strokes to win his first career major.

And, as he tapped in for the victory on the 18th green, a new outgoing Jason Dufner was born for the world to see.

No, he didn’t jump into a pond or start doing jumping jacks. He’s not that crazy.

But his subsequent rump rub with Amanda sparked a subtle, never-before-seen series of public emotion.

Moments after his encounter with Amanda, he saw his buddy Keegan Bradley. Two years earlier at the PGA Championship in Atlanta, Bradley had defeated Dufner in a playoff. Now, 24 months later, Bradley wanted to congratulate his friend.
