PITTSFORD, N.Y. - Yes, America, he is from Brantford.

And, yes, America, that is the same hometown of The Great One.

Imagine that. They play sports other than hockey there.

That certainly seemed like a unique concept for some media members in the press room at the PGA Championship here at Oak Hill Country Club Thursday.

As David Hearn sat at the podium after taking the early clubhouse lead with a brilliant opening-round 4-under 66, there were almost as many questions about slapshots as there were about chip shots.

Did you play hockey, Hearn was asked.

Do you know Wayne Gretzky?

Has he ever given you advice? If so, what was it?

Surprising no one gave him some back bacon to gnaw on while he was perusing his answers.

Canadian stereotypes, anyone?

Thirty minutes after his presser was completed, Hearn was chatting with three of us who are covering the event from north of the border.
