The Canadian Open played as a storyline when the opening salvo of the FedExCup Playoffs concluded Sunday at The Barclay’s.
For one man, it was the fulfilment of a PGA Tour victory possibly gone unfulfilled, and for another, it was the continuation of a frustrating run of disappointing Sundays.
Hunter Mahan won The Barclay’s with a fantastic final round of 65, marking his first victory since pulling out of the 2013 Canadian Open with the lead at Glen Abbey to attend the birth of his first child, daughter Zoe.
For Jim Furyk, who held the 54-hole lead at this year’s Canadian Open at Royal Montreal, Sunday marked yet another unfulfilled victory. It was a frustrating day for the 44-year-old veteran who once again couldn’t convert after holding a share of the lead coming into a Sunday, an agonizing eighth time since 2012.
