For Tiger Woods it’s all about the next two weeks.

Much of the Tiger talk over recent weeks has been whether or not the 14-time major winner deserves to be picked for the Ryder Cup. Depending who you listen to, his selection could depend on whether or not he qualifies for the PGA Tour’s playoffs.

While it makes for lively debate, both of these made-for-TV events — although enjoyable — will be a footnote in golf history, if that.

The PGA Championship ditched the Glory’s Last Shot tagline last year at the urging of the PGA Tour but that doesn’t change the fact that the season’s final major is the final place to make golf history each year. Before players get to Valhalla next week, golf fans are treated to a dress rehearsal at the WGC Bridgestone Invitational at Firestone in Akron, Ohio. And all eyes will be on Tiger Woods’ battle to get his game back following back surgery.
