ILE-BIZARD, Que. -- If Canadian golf sensation Taylor Pendrith had followed in his dad's footsteps, he'd be carrying an axe, not a club.

And no, Pendrith's dad isn't a lumberjack. Darrel Pendrith is a guitar technician at Cosmo Music in Richmond Hill, Ont. and a helluva player in his own right. The music connection doesn't end there.

Taylor -- who has been the talk of the Canadian Open this week at the Royal Montreal Golf Club with his incredible drives and impressive (though somewhat inconsistent) play -- has an uncle, Dennis Pendrith, who is one of the best bass guitar session players in Canada. Dennis is the touring bassist with Stuart MacLean's Vinyl Cafe, but has also played with Murray McLauchlan, Bruce Cockburn, Gordon Lightfoot, Stan Rogers and Sylvia Tyson. According to the Allmusic.com website, Dennis Pendrith has played on 120 albums during his career. And he's still going strong.
