There were suggestions put forward when golf was added to the Olympic Games program for 2016 that the big-time PGA Tour pros wouldn’t embrace the concept of competing at a Games.

The comments were that golfers are too interested in making money to want to compete at an Olympics, nor would they get ramped-up about a competition that wasn’t a professional event, and that the top pros are simply too jaded to get excited about competing at event with athletes from other sports.

“My lord, you mean I have to share a room with a pugilist? Get my agent on the phone, tout de suite.”

Well, you can take the theory that golfers aren’t excited about the Olympics, place it on a tee and smack it into the drink.
