HOYLAKE, ENGLAND - Itís official now, David Hearn is a real quick learner. Sharp as a tack. An ĎAí student.
Hearn went around the 7,312-yard track at Royal Liverpool in two-under-par 70 on Thursday in his first ever crack at the British Open.
Hearn put up three birdies against one bogey and, other than a slightly difficult start, found very little trouble during the opening round of the seasonís third major.
Quite an impressive feat for the Brantford, Ont., native who had very little time to prepare for his first foray into links golf and hasnít made a major this season.
ďIt was a proud moment playing in my first British Open here today,Ē Hearn said after coming off the 18th green, having walked the ancient links at Hoylake in northwest England with three-time Open champion Nick Faldo and 2004 winner Todd Hamilton.
