OAKVILLE, ONT. - In the interests of good form, it’s appropriate at this time to wish Hunter Mahan and his wife Kandi sincere congratulations from north of the border on their new bundle of joy.

Who wouldn’t vamoose with news that your firstborn was on its way as Mahan did on Saturday and while it’s never a good thing when a marquee name exits a tournament, he may have done the RBC Canadian Open a favour.

At the time, Mahan had a two-shot lead at 13 under, so his departure put the leading score, at least temporarily, back to 11 under, with some nasty weather coming in right after that announcement was made.

The leading score going into Sunday’s final round is Brandt Snedeker’s 14-under, so the winning number could conceivably be 20 under, not a number that should be associated with a national open.
