A struggling Rory McIlroy came to the British Open looking for answers.

After an opening-round 79 at Muirfield Thursday, the former world No. 1 only has more questions.

“It’s just so brain dead,” said the 24-year-old in describing his on-course state right now. “Seriously, I feel like I’ve been walking around out there like that for the last couple of months. I’m trying to get out of it. I just don’t know quite why (it’s happening).
