While Brad Fritsch shot even par Thursday, it was anything but a ho-hum round.
After carding a 71 to open the PGA Tour's Tampa Bay Championship, the Manotick, Ont. golfer found out his wife Megan had their first son — Jesse Paul Fritsch — back home in North Carolina while he was playing his 17th hole at 7:03 p.m.
"I feel very weird and awkward," the personable Fritsch, who is in a tie for 26th, said in a text after a solid round on a tough course.
"(Megan) had an appointment (Wednesday) and they said 'Nah, it's not close, probably two weeks away.' There's no way I could have known."
Wife, son and daughter Hannah are all happy and healthy at home.
