Will Tiger Woods fans abandon golf once he retires?
By IAN HUTCHINSON, Special to QMI Agency
I read a weepy tale of woe in these pages about the NHL lockout and how hockey was in the blood of fans who miss it so much, to which I say, “pick up your droppings afterwards.”
If hockey was in your blood, you would be at your local arena supporting your junior team and you would stay there even when the NHL decided how they are going to divvy up the dough separated from the suckers, no matter the quality of the product served up to them.
The line between hockey fan and NHL fan is blurred. You can be both, just as you can be a Tiger Woods fan and a golf fan.
However, in golf’s case, it’s the strictly Tiger fans who need headlines talking about their man even when he isn’t leading a tournament. They’ll be the ones who bail on the game when Woods retires, just like those who won’t return to the local rink when the NHL comes back.
