CHARLOTTE, NC - Masters champion Bubba Watson has withdrawn from early May's Wells Fargo Championship.

The tournament announced on its Twitter account Tuesday that Watson withdrew to spend time with family.

"We will miss him and completely understand his need to be with them," the tweet said.

Two Sundays ago, Watson defeated Louis Oosthuizen in a playoff to win the green jacket and his first major title. However, his wife and new son did not travel to the tournament, and Watson frequently talked about how it was tough to leave them.

The Wells Fargo Championship will take place at Quail Hollow Club from May 3-6. Lucas Glover is the defending champion.
