TORONTO - In his prime he had no equals. Adoring eyes followed him everywhere he walked. His mere presence closed the deal automatically. He was a human cash machine making everyone around him rich. He simply was the best.

Who are we talking about?

Don Draper, of course.

There were two great stories on Sunday. First there was the return of Tiger Woods with his first PGA Tour victory in 924 days, then a few hours later there was the return of Don Draper when AMCís Mad Men aired a new episode for the first time in 526 days.

If you donít watch Mad Men I apologize for this column and promise once I arrive in Augusta next week it will be strictly golf. That said, if you are a golfer then you likely are well-versed in adult beverages and male-dominated conversations, so why arenít you watching Mad Men?

Tiger Woods and Don Draper have been stuck in my head the past two days so similarities, real or imagined, have begun to take form.

From the outside looking in these two, at one point, seemed to have it all.

At work there were no equals, they were the giants of their industry. At home they had the beautiful blonde wife and a couple of cute kids. They were the living, breathing American Dream.

But they had secrets.

(If youíre planning to start watching Mad Men on my recommendation, you probably should stop reading here.)

In both menís cases the their secrets threatened to tear down the empire they had built.

Don wasnít the man he seemed to be. His real name is Dick Whitman. He has a military background and a secret half-brother he wants nothing to do with.

Tiger wasnít the man he seemed to be. His real name is Eldrick Tont Woods. He has a military upbringing and two half-brothers and a half-sister he seemingly wants little to do with.

Donís private life turns into a complex mess of booze and women with a special thing for secretaries.

Tigerís life away from home was a complicated web of nightclubs and women with a special thing for waitresses.

Eventually the secrets caught up to both men and their lives began to fall apart. People started to whisper behind their backs. The air of invincibility disappeared.

They lost their beautiful blonde wives. They lost their mojo.

And donít look now but the next generation is hot on their heels.

Young Rory McIlroy is eyeing Tiger while young Pete Campbell is hot on Donís tail.

That brings us to last Sunday.

Don Draper showed us very little in the season premiere to suggest heís going to brush himself off and become the Don that took the world by storm.

Tiger, on the other hand, flashed that grin and collected the winnerís cheque for the seventh time at Arnieís event at Bay Hill.

For Don, we will have to wait and see.

For Tiger, Hollywood couldnít have scripted it any better.
