PGA Tour to allow use of mobile devices
By Sports Network

PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. -- The PGA Tour announced Tuesday a new policy that will allow spectators at events to carry and use mobile devices on select areas of the golf course.

The policy will take effect during The Honda Classic, which runs from February 28-March 6.

"We understand that mobile devices are an important part of everyday life," said PGA Tour chief of operations Andy Pazder. "We concluded after the five test tournaments that allowing mobile devices on-site at tour events was a tremendous fan enhancement."

The policy will allow fans to carry mobile devices on the golf course as long as the volume is set to silent. Phone calls can be made in designated areas such as concession stands and messages can be sent away from play.

No video recording/photography will be permitted while play is ongoing.

The policy will be implemented on a tournament-by-tournament basis and does not apply to the four majors, which are not controlled by the tour.
