LA JOLLA, Calif. -- Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson have both committed to the Farmers Insurance Open next week at Torrey Pines. It will be the first PGA Tour start of 2011 for both players.
Woods hasn't played this event since 2008 and next week's start will mark his first appearance at Torrey Pines since he defeated Rocco Mediate in a playoff at the 2008 U.S. Open.
Mickelson, who is making his season debut this week at the European Tour's Abu Dhabi Golf Championship, finished 19th last year at Torrey Pines.
Both players have outstanding records at this event. Woods has won the Farmers Insurance Open six times, while Mickelson has claimed the title on three occasions.
They have combined to win this event in eight of the last 12 years.
Woods is also committed to the European Tour's Dubai Dessert Classic, which will take place February 10-13.
Neither player has announced any further events, but tournament officials at the World Golf Championships - Accenture Match Play Championship stated at their media day Tuesday that both players are expected to compete there. The Match Play Championship is scheduled for February 23-27.
