PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. -- British Open champion Louis Oosthuizen has withdrawn from next week's PGA Grand Slam of Golf. He was replaced in the field by 2001 PGA Champion David Toms.

Oosthuizen recently injured his left ankle in his native South Africa and was unable to compete last week at the Alfred Dunhill Link Championship on the European Tour.

The PGA of America announced Tuesday that Toms will take his place in the four-player field at Port Royal Golf Course in Bermuda.

Ernie Els had previously replaced Phil Mickelson, so just two of this year's four major champions will compete next week. Toms and Els will play alongside U.S. Open champ Graeme McDowell and PGA Championship winner Martin Kaymer.

The 36-hole event now has an American in the field and has had at least one American play in the event every year since 1995.

The tournament will be played Oct. 18-20.
