Media has Watson tearing up

KOHLER, Wis. - Free spirited Bubba Watson couldnt hold back the tears when talk turned to the impact cancer has had on his life.

Watson's dad is battling the disease.

His wife had a cancer scare at Christmas.

"I didn't tell many people because it's really nobody's business, you know," he said, his eyes brimming with tears. "I'm not here to get sympathy. Im here to play golf."

His wife, Angie, had a headache and went to the hospital.

"The doctor said she had a tumour right here on her pituitary gland...two months went by and we did some more tests and man this is hard," he said, wiping his eyes.

"We went to Duke University Hospital, the doctors there said it's not a tumour...man, I don't like you guys anymore, he said to reporters. "Before I had fun (talking to the media), but now I'm not...hopefully you all don't think I'm a sissy. You know I do hit the ball a long way."

The three-hour delay caused by fog off of Lake Michigan Thursday morning brought everything to a halt at Whistling Straits.

Well, everything except the kitchen, apparently, thanks to Scotsman Stephen Gallacher.

"I got here at 5:45, had my breakfast and went out. Even though it was foggy, you have to prepare as it could lift so quickly," Gallacher explained. "So I did my warmup and then it just came right back in. Back in, another breakfast, back out for some chipping, back in for another breakfast of toast and fruit, back out in earnest...

"Teed off and there was a slight delay and it never really picked up. I didn't see the ball land until the fifth hole."

Gallacher double-bogeyed the third hole no wonder, if he was working off three breakfasts but dug down and wound up shooting a 1-under 71.

Tiger Woods said he dug into breakfast three times, too, referring to them as breakfast-es.

The yardage for the Whistling Straits course Thursday was 7,522 yards. The front nine was 3,823 and the back was 3,699.

With his 1-under-par 71 Thursday, Woods is now a combined 58-under par for the 49 rounds he has played in the PGA Championship since 1997.
