They hope to play the Canadian Open in Calgary and Ottawa and some place in Quebec not named The Royal Montreal some day.

Just not before 2014.

Golf Canada confirmed on Wednesday the 2012 Open will be returning to the Hamilton Golf and Country Club, the same spot where the 2003 and 2006 championship was held.

With the 2011 Open set for the Shaughnessy Golf Club in Vancouver and Oakville's Glen Abbey looking like a solid bet for 2013, the 2014 site selection could get interesting.

Calgary would be a lock, except none of the current courses are long enough, and Stephen Ames badly wants to play an Open in his adopted city before he retires.

"A new facility would have to be built (in Calgary)," Ames said Wednesday. "A lot of courses have come up and asked if they could host it and we've said: 'Yeah? Are you willing to add a thousand yards to your golf course?'

"That means cutting trees down, making new tee boxes. They're not willing to do that."

Golf Canada's Scott Simmons said Ottawa's Hunt Club proved itself worthy in 2008 when it played host to the Canadian Women's Open.

Royal Montreal is another option, but Simmons will be checking out other courses in Quebec to give the province some variety.
