Tiger Woods said fans at the Masters were "absolutely incredible" - which he says was nice considering he wasn't sure what to expect.

In a blog post Friday, Woods said while it was great to play again, he still wasn't 100% ready.

"I have to say it felt great to return to competition at the Masters Tournament. To actually contend in a major on the back nine Sunday and tie for fourth with very little preparation, with all that has transpired in my life, was pretty cool," Woods wrote on his blog.

"It also felt great to be in the hunt again, but unfortunately, I didn't have my game. I knew I needed to make a run, but I just didn't have one in me. I had a terrible warm-up session Sunday, and it carried over to the first tee."

Despite not doing as well as he hoped, he said the warmth of the fans helped him get comfortable.

"I honestly didn't know what to expect from the fans, but they were absolutely incredible from Monday through Sunday. It was unreal. They definitely helped me mentally to be more comfortable out there. I was hoping for the best. To get that type of warmth is something I did not expect and will never forget," he wrote.

He said it was good to see people, including his fellow golfers. He also talked about one little girl that gave him a letter, but he didn't say what it said.

Woods also addressed his foul language on the greens, saying he apologized after Saturday's round.

"It's tough when you're in a competitive environment and in the flow of a tournament. I'm not perfect. All I can say is I'm trying to do everything I can without losing my fire and competitive spirit," he wrote.

On the Saturday of the Masters, Woods hit a shot into the gallery and could be heard saying, "Tiger Woods, you suck." He also dropped his club on the Thursday in frustration.

In his blog, Woods congratulated Phil Mickelson on his win at the Masters and said he'll return to competition at the Quail Hollow Championships in North Carolina next week.

Woods mentions his family twice in the blog post ‹ once to say his mother was in the gallery at the Masters and then to say he took time off after the Masters "to go scuba diving and spend time with my family."
