OAKVILLE -- Colombian Camilo Villegas closed with a rush this morning to grab a share of the Canadian Open lead at the end of the rain-delayed first round.

Villegas joins Kevin Na at the top of the leaderboard after shooting a round of nine-under-par 63. Villegas played the last six holes of his round in six-under-par to leap past Scott Verplank, Retief Goosen, Joe Durant, Jerry Kelly, Martin Laird and Peter Tomasulo, all tied for third place at seven-under-par 65.

The second round began at 11:50 a.m. but it is expected that some players, including Canadian Mike Weir, will not be able to complete 36 holes until sometime Saturday morning.

Villegas came to the par-five 18th hole this morning trailing Na by two shots but reached the green in two and then sank a 14-foot putt from the back fringe to catch Na, who shot a stunning 28 on his back nine on Thursday evening.
