Muddy balls

ANCASTER -- The overnight and early-morning rain softened up the fairways and greens at the Hamilton Golf and Country Club.

Cambridge's Ian Leggatt would have preferred to have played lift and clean instead of playing the ball down as the field did yesterday.

"It was muddy out there," he said. "I had three or four balls out there with all kinds of mud on it. They should have done it right from the beginning because it's a little unfair. I had a couple of bad shots (because of mud on his ball) right from the middle of the fairway."

EAGLE'S EYE AT 17TH

The 550-yard, par-five 17th wasn't much of a beast yesterday as it conceded five eagles. The only other par-five on the course, the 542-yard fourth, had no eagles.
