It wasn't pretty, but it got the job done.

Manotick's Brad Fritsch advanced to the second stage of PGA Tour qualifying yesterday, despite hitting the ball "like a 15-handicapper" at times over the last four days.

"I'm just glad to get through," said Fritsch, who had a 2-over-par 72 yesterday and finished at 283, 3-over par. That was good for a tie for 10th place at Florence Country Club in Florence, S.C. The top 18 players advanced to the second of three stages of Q-School.

Fritsch had led or been tied for the lead the first two rounds after opening with a 64.

"I only made four birdies the last three days and still didn't hit it great. I need to figure something out (before the next stage)."

There are six venues for the second stage. Fritsch is expecting he'll play his second stage tournament at Lake Jovita in Dade City, Fla., Nov. 16-19.

Fritsch will play in a mini-tour event next week on the Tar Heer Tour.
