Tiger Woods isn't at Shaughnessy Golf and Country Club this week, but the field at the Bell Canadian Open is still the best Vancouver has seen since the 1960s.

Defending champion Vijay Singh is among 156 golfers vying for the US$4.9 million purse at this week's PGA Tour stop. The winner receives US$882,000.

Out of the 16 Canadians entered, there are five from British Columbia, including veterans Dave Barr and Richard Zokol.

Pittsburgh's Scott Dunlap won Monday's qualifying tournament with a 67 at Morgan Creek Golf Course in Surrey. Chris Ming and Steve Collins both had 68s.

The tournament runs Thursday through Sunday and will air daily on TSN. CTV will simulcast Saturday and Sunday.

The Bell Canadian Open is the first Lower Mainland PGA Tour stop since the Air Canada Championship, which ran from 1996 to 2002 at Northview in Surrey.
