Caddie eyes Little more

With an endorsement deal in his pocket and a resurgence in his golf game, Brennan Little is looking and sounding more like a pro than a caddie these days.

Best known as the right-hand man for Canadian lefty Mike Weir, Little doesn't plan to leave the bag any time soon, however.

But the former Canadian Tour player has scraped some of the rust off of his game and if he continues to improve might take a shot at qualifying for the 2007 PGA Championship.

"I didn't play much for a long time but I've been playing fairly well lately," Little said yesterday while in Toronto with Weir to announce a promotional partnership they have signed with Dynamic Funds.

"At least I can break par again."

A former Ontario junior champ and Canadian Tour player, Little has been Weir's regular caddie since 1999 and at his side for all of the Bright's Grove native's PGA victories.

The job has been lucrative for Little, a native of St. Thomas, who makes far more with Weir than he ever did on the Canadian Tour, which he left in 1998.

But Little has kept his professional status active, which required a stint working at the Byron Nelson Classic in Dallas earlier this year to earn "service points."

Little's improved play has led to some interesting games with his boss and friends, no more so than during a trip to Scotland prior to the British Open.

"Usually I get two or three strokes (from Weir) on the front, then we adjust," Little said. "Scotland was really good. We got off the plane and I had it five under through 16 holes then went bogey-bogey to finish."

Little has done more than carry Weir's golf bag, of course, which was the theme of yesterday's announcement. As an adviser and confidant, the relationship between the two longtime friends has contributed to Weir's success, a concept which will be the focus of Dynamic's ad campaign.

"It's exciting for me," said Little, who will wear a Dynamic logo on his golf shirt. "Some (other caddies) have deals, but nothing like this."
