Playing a round of golf with Alice Cooper turned into much more than a few hours of listening to rock-star stories for Ottawa Sun columnist Tim Baines.

Baines’ column on the shock-rocker, who replaced alcohol with golf as an addiction 30 years ago, won second place in the feature story category of the Golf Journalists Association of Canada awards, presented Monday at the Burlington Golf and Country Club.

The story, Nice Putt Alice, appeared in the Sun last July.

“The round of golf was an amazing experience,” said Baines. “Alice has such passion for golf. It really saved his life.

“It’s a tremendous honour to be recognized in a country rich with excellent golf journalism. And it’s an honour to have my byline attached to the Ottawa Sun.”
