CALGARY - The Champions Tour's Shaw Charity Classic has added some serious star power.
Tournament organizers announced Wednesday that Fred Couples, undoubtedly the biggest name on the senior circuit, has committed to attend the Aug. 30-Sept. 1 event at Canyon Meadows Golf & Country Club in Calgary.
“I have always enjoyed playing up in Canada, so I'm really looking forward to being part of the inaugural Shaw Charity Classic,” Couples said in a statement. “Calgary has been through a very challenging summer, but I hope the community will be able to enjoy watching some great tournament golf at Canyon Meadows. We all want to support the tournament’s efforts to help out some of the wonderful charities in the region.”
Couples, who is competing at the British Open this week at Muirfield, was inducted to the World Golf Hall of Fame earlier this year. His trophy collection includes 15 PGA Tour titles and a Green Jacket from the 1992 Masters.
