WATERLOO, ONT. - Gusting winds and a slow start couldn’t ruin Brooke Henderson’s sixth time playing with the pros.

The soon-to-be 17-year old native of Smiths Falls and the No. 3 ranked amateur in the world battled the wind like a seasoned veteran and overcame a slow start to post a one-under par round in what most would agree were very trying conditions on Thursday at the Manulife Financial LPGA Classic.

“It was strong all day,” Henderson said of the wind. “You really needed to take it into account on every single shot.”

Playing with fellow sponsor’s exemption Jackie Stoelting, who won the reality show Big Break Florida on the Golf Channel, and LPGA rookie Anya Alvarez, Henderson routinely outdrove her playing partners but was struggling with the putting until the 14th hole when she drained a 30-foot uphill attempt for birdie.
