CALGARY - If you’re one of those folks who seems to need forever to find your golf game after a lengthy layoff, you might want to stop reading now.

 This will only upset you.

After rarely teeing it up through the winter months, Calgary’s Nicole Zhang — a longtime member at Silver Springs and student at the University of Notre Dame — dusted off her clubs for a U.S. Women’s Open qualifier last week and drained a birdie putt on the first playoff hole to earn an invite to the major championship at Sebonack Golf Club in Southampton, N.Y.

“I played golf in January during winter break and during spring break, but while I was at school, I only played 27 holes the whole semester,” Zhang said.

“I’ve done this before. During high school, I would take a couple months off from golf and just focus on school, and it was a nice breather. Whenever I go back to playing golf, I feel fresh again.”
